TAPPI
IS NOW A RESELLER OF THE BOOK"Sacrificial
Lamb" - The Beloit Corporation Story.
The book is available at
the TAPPI Press
Website. Sacrificial Lamb is a
story of leadership and
dedication. A company that began as a small business in 1858 in
a rented factory in Beloit, WI, starting up with a capital investment
of $4,200 and ten employees, evolving into a successful
company that became the world's largest and most respected
manufacturer of papermaking machinery. The book focus
is the critical years of the "bankruptcy period"
when Harnischfeger Industries filed for Chapter 11 June 7,
1999 through July 3, 2001 and documents the aftermath of
bankruptcy which resulted in the premature closing of Beloit
Corporation. Click the
book icon at left for more details.
ONCE
UPON A TIME IN AMERICA
A
Paper Industry Web
Feature Story for Independence Day
Abstract:
The
closing years of the 18th century are well
remembered as the time of the American Revolution
War when the American colonies fought for
independence-the toll of the war was high in human life. The
world would never be the same. During
that period, another revolution was taking place. At
the time in the American Colonies
at the end of the 18th century, the process of making
paper was still the same as it was when paper was
invented in China in 105 AD. Paper was made sheet by individual sheet. Through those
turbulent war years of the American Revolution another
revolution was taking place: "The Paper Making
Revolution". The paper industry was
being converted to mechanization. Paper making
inventions abounded and the toll would be hardships,
displacements and financial ruin or gain depending
which end of the "paper revolution" a person
was on. Paper making would never be the same. Click

Is
the world really flat as Thomas Friedman proposes in his book,
"The World is Flat"? For many, even
though the word globalization contains 13 letters globalization
is a four letter word in disguise. To some our reactions are a mix of
emotion and facts. What does globalization mean to the paper
