"Rock River Paper Company"

"Parker and Stone"

"Merrill and Houston Iron Works"

Comments:

S. T. Merrill was making paper in the then

known "Rock River Paper Company" mill on a machine

imported from the New England States. Needing

additional drying capacity, he persuaded 0. fe. Merrill

to make the necessary parts required and which upon

completion proved highly satisfactory.

At this time Parker and Stone were turning out

about 800 reapers and mowers a year in a foundry

located on the former Besly site with machine shop

adjacent, the paint shop located on the west side of

the former Race Street.

At Whitewater, Wisconsin, the Whitewater

Paper Company was founded and manufactured three

and a half tons of print and tea paper. This mill was

wiped out by fire in 1868.
